Maralisa Simmons-Cook is a Bay Area raised, Brooklyn based singer/songwriter, bandleader and voice coach and a graduate from The New School. Her vocals are rooted in an upbringing of heavy blues and soul artists such as Taj Mahal, Nina Simone and Amy Winehouse, creating a distinct timbre she incorporates into various genres. Maralisa has collaborated with a wide range of producers from Chrome Sparks to Ian Chang (Son Lux) and doubles as frontwoman and songwriter for Space Captain, a Brooklyn based psych-soul group signed to UK's Tru Thoughts. She has performed alongside BADBADNOTGOOD, Ghostface Killah, Nick Hakim, Khruangbin, The Hot 8 Brass Band, Kendra Morris and more at notable New York venues including Rough Trade and the Bryant Park Emerging Music Festival.
